About the 2017 Summer School

Monday 25 - Friday 29 June and Monday 2 - Friday 6 July 2017, The University of Manchester, Oxford Road Campus.

The sixth methods@manchester Summer School will be held at The University of Manchester from 25 June to 6 July 2017. Each course at the school will run for one week, offering four days of content to a five-day timetable (Monday afternoon to Friday lunch-time), building on successful methods@manchester and CMIST short-courses given throughout the year.

What we offer

The school offers a range of specialised courses covering a variety of topics that are particularly relevant to postgraduate and ECR research in humanities and social sciences. The selection includes software training, qualitative and quantitative analysis, area studies, and research design. The course content is based on approaches from across the various schools in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester.

We also offer daytime catering of the event, optional social outings during the summer school period, and advice on transport and accommodation if you are traveling to Manchester to attend a course.

Each course will deliver four days of content to a five-day timetable unless otherwise stated (Monday afternoon to Friday lunch-time).

Courses are offered at competitive rates with limited subsidized places for University of Manchester students.  Places are limited, so please book early to secure your place. The course fee is for a single course and includes 28 hours of face-to-face teaching over five days, and lunch on four days.

We have a small number of bursaries available for University of Manchester PhD Students (reducing the cost of a week-long course to £300) and UK wide PhD Students (reducing the cost of a week-long course to £400).

If you would like to apply for a bursary, please email for an application form.
