STUDYING GENDER POLICY CHANGE OVER TIME WORKSHOP
Thursday 8 March 2012 – International Women’s Day
Boardroom, Arthur Lewis Building, University of Manchester

Policy changes to encourage gender equality encompass a wide variety of policy domains addressing for example political representation, the balance between paid and unpaid work and pay equality, issues around the bodily integrity of women such as reproductive rights and initiatives aimed at challenging the dominance of heterosexuality. Detailed case studies of policy demands in specific domains both within and across countries have contributed much to the understanding of the circumstances of policy change in these areas. The availability of new international data sets of government agendas and laws coded by policy topic; of female representation in both legislatures and executives; and other cross national social and economic indicators, permits a systematic quantitative and comparative investigation using time series analysis/event history analysis of where and when gender equality policies reach government agendas and get enacted.
This one day workshop is for those interested in researching gender policy change, and for those interested in studying policy change over time using quantitative or mixed methods. It will provide an introduction to the questions, data and methods which can be used to approach the study of gender policy change over time.
There is no charge for this event but places are limited. If you would like to attend or for further information please contact Francesca.Gains@manchester.ac.uk
