The obligations and opportunities of post-graduate research, Professor James Thompson
  Professor James Thompson, Associate Dean for External Relations will offer some reflections on the challenges and opportunities which PhD students face when conducting empirical research, including obligations and responsibilities to those being researched as well as opportunities for taking research out to the wider society.
   
10.20 - 10.50

An introduction to Ketso

Ketso is a hands-on kit for creative group-work. Its creator, Joanne Tippett, will introduce Ketso and ask participants to use the boards in the Lecture Theatre to provide their views and feedback on different topics. The boards will then be moved to the foyer for participants to use during the day.

4.00 - 5.30 Nora Groce, UCL - Applying Research to Real World Problems

Professor Groce will outline research that uses a mix of qualitative and quantitative methodologies to address complex issues in global health and international development at levels ranging from improving outreach programmes for vulnerable populations. She will argue that researchers should start with a good question and then make use of a range of methodologies that can most appropriately help to answer the problem being considered.
